Jeannette Charles played the role of Queen Elizabeth II in numerous productions. Now the actress has died.
Mourning for Jeannette Charles (1927-2024): The double of Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022) has died. This was announced by her daughter Carol Christophi in a statement, which included: The actress, who played the role of the British monarch in various feature films, television series and television shows, was 96 years old.
According to Christophi, her mother died on June 2 in a nursing home in her hometown of Essex, England. “My mother was a real personality and a force of nature. She had an amazing life,” she mourned.
Striking resemblance to Queen Elizabeth
Jeannette Charles played the monarch, who also died in 2022 at the age of 96, in several films, including “The Naked Gun” and “Austin Powers in Goldmember”. She also appeared as the Queen in various commercials and on “Saturday Night Life”.
Even as a child, she had been repeatedly asked about her resemblance to the Queen, Charles reported in an interview with “The Guardian” in 2022. The similarity initially stood in the way of her desire to pursue an acting career – until she decided to use the analogy to her advantage as a “professional Queen Elizabeth lookalike”.
Throughout her career, the British woman remained a “staunch royalist” and never accepted roles that “would cast a bad light on the monarch or me.” In 2014, she announced that she was retiring from the business. Arthritis was cited as the reason for her retirement.
