Greece: BBC star Michael Mosley is missing

BBC presenter Michael Mosley is missing. The 67-year-old went hiking in Greece on Wednesday – and has not been seen since. The large-scale search operation is ongoing.

There is great concern for BBC presenter Michael Mosley. The 67-year-old traveled to the Greek island of Symi to go hiking – and did not return from a hiking trip. As the British broadcaster “BBC” reports, Mosley set off for a walk from the beach on Wednesday. However, his wife only found the TV star’s smartphone in their accommodation that evening, and there has been no trace of Mosley himself since then.

The Greek police reacted immediately to the missing person report and started an extensive search operation that is still ongoing. Emergency services from the mainland have come to help the firefighters and police officers on site. So far, however, they have had only moderate success. Even the use of a drone and the review of surveillance videos have so far been unsuccessful, and police dogs have also been unable to find any trace.

Did BBC presenter Michael Mosley fall while hiking?

But what happened to the BBC presenter? After a woman reported seeing him in the Pedi area of Symi, the rescue operation is focusing on this area. Pedi is an area that is considered relatively dangerous – due to the high crime rate. However, the woman saw Mosley in a safe part of the region. Eleftherios Papakalodoukas, mayor of the island, therefore expressed a sobering suspicion to the broadcaster: He thinks it is likely that Mosley took an unsafe hiking trail and fell into the sea.

But this is just one of many theories about the whereabouts of the TV star. The British Foreign Office has also now become involved in the case. A spokeswoman said: “We are supporting the family of a British man who is missing in Greece and are in contact with the local authorities.”

Michael Mosley studied medicine in London, but has worked primarily as a presenter, documentary filmmaker and author over the past few decades. His awards include an Emmy for the BBC science documentary “The Human Face” and he is known nationwide for his work on the BBC shows “The One Show” and “This Morning”.
