The Italian-Latin American International Organization (IILA), in collaboration with various Spanish-speaking cultural institutes, has launched a fascinating program that offers the opportunity to win a prize in euros and obtain international recognition for those selected.

What the IILA contest is about
It’s about the second edition of M’Illumino / D’Immenso (I illuminate / Of immensidad), an international poetry translation competition from Spanish to Italian, designed to promote the language and disseminate the lyrical genre. The contest covers cities such as Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Caracas, Mexico City, Lima, Madrid and Montevideo.
Participants will have the task of translate two poems in Spanish, one from Luis Miguel Aguilar (Mexico) and another from Antonio Cisneros (Peru), to the Italian. A panel of renowned international writers will make up the jury in charge of evaluating the translations.
IILA Competition Awards
The winner will be rewarded with:
- A stimulus allocation of 1000 euros.
- A certificate of recognition.
- A selection of poetry books.
- The publication of your translations in European press media.
- The opportunity to be part of the jury in the next edition of the program.
- An annual subscription to the Mexican Association of Literary Translators.
It is important to highlight that the interested parties They must submit a single translation proposal, that includes both poems, and that winners from previous editions will not be able to participate.
IILA competition: how to participate
The Registration deadline is August 20and the winner will be announced before 4th of October through the website of the Traduxit Laboratory. The awards ceremony will take place on Monday, October 14 in Mexico City, and those who cannot attend in person will be able to access it through the website.
The requirements and steps to follow to register are the following:
- There are no country restrictions outside of Italy.
- Translation proposals must be sent in a Word file (Times New Roman, size 12, double spacing) with the subject “MIDI Italian 2024” to the email address [email protected].
- The file containing the two translations must be named “Translations” and must not include information about the contestant or footnotes.
- In another separate file titled “Personal data”, applicants must include the following information, along with a statement authorizing the processing of their data: name and surname, date of birth, mother tongue, nationality and country of residence, address, telephone number and email, and how they found out about the contest.
