Tennis star Alexander Zverev was charged in Berlin in 2023 with alleged bodily harm. The proceedings have now been discontinued.
The trial against German tennis pro Alexander Zverev (27) for alleged bodily harm ended on the third day of the trial. As the athlete’s lawyers confirmed in a press release on Friday, June 7, the Berlin Tiergarten District Court discontinued the proceedings. No conviction was made – so the athlete is still considered innocent.
In July 2024, the Berlin public prosecutor’s office applied to the Tiergarten district court for a penal order against tennis professional Zverev. The co-plaintiff and alleged victim was the ex-partner of the tennis player and Olympic champion.
Attitude “above all in the interest of the common child”
Friday’s statement goes on to say that the public prosecutor, Zverev’s defense and his ex-partner had agreed to this way of ending the proceedings in order to resolve the conflict peacefully and “to shorten the proceedings – especially in the interests of their child.” His lawyers make it clear: “The dismissal does not imply a finding of guilt or an admission of guilt. The legal presumption of innocence remains unaffected.”
After the court case was dropped, Alexander Zverev can once again concentrate fully on the sport. On June 7, starting at 5:30 p.m., he will fight for a place in the final against Norwegian Casper Ruud (25) at the French Open in Paris.
