Watches from Sylvester Stallone: A rarity brings in over 5 million

When he first came into money, says Hollywood veteran Sylvester Stallone, he started collecting watches. It was a gold Rolex that sparked his interest. As his success in front of the camera continued, his collection grew. Stallone even managed to get his hands on an extremely rare Patek Philippe watch.

This watch was also the star of the “” auction held recently by Sotheby’s. In total, the actor contributed eleven timepieces that could not have been more different. With great success: the sale of his treasures brought in 6.7 million US dollars.

Sylvester Stallone never wore the most expensive watch

The legendary Patek Philippe 6300G-010 Grandmaster Chime alone fetched 5.4 million US dollars. It was the first time that a watch from this series found its way to an auction. The Grandmaster Chime is one of the most complicated wristwatches – if not the most complicated – in the world. Patek Philippe gave the watch a total of 20 complications on two dials. It is said that the construction process, from development to production to assembly, consumed a total of 100,000 hours of work.

Stallone himself said that it was not easy to get hold of this watch. True – because Patek Philippe is notoriously picky when it comes to allocating the very special models. But as he proved to Sotheby’s, Stallone managed to end up in the papers as the first buyer of the watch. He never wore it – he bought it in 2021 just to admire it.

Rolex, Audemars and Panerai – the main thing is that they are big and preferably made of gold

The package contents are highly unusual for a watch: the Patek Philippe 6300G-010 comes with a certificate of origin identifying Stallone as the original purchaser, product literature in a large leather folder, a collection book, a travel case, cufflinks, a USB drive, a sealed pin, a pendant, an Apple iPad with a Patek Philippe leather case, an adapter, a charger and Apple headphones with a Patek Philippe case.

Not everyone was happy about the sale of the watch. In a conversation with the trade magazine “”, Patek’s president Thierry Stern let it be known that he was not happy with the auction. “Of course we don’t like it, but it can happen. I can’t control everyone. It’s not fair for a customer who has perhaps been waiting for this piece for many years and then sees that it is being sold,” said Stern. The Patek boss left it open whether Stallone’s sale has now landed him on the company’s blacklist and he will no longer receive another watch.

It is assumed that Stallone made a profit of around two million US dollars from the Grandmaster Chime. Collectors do not like this form of profitable transfer – especially when it takes place at relatively short notice.

The sale of this horological unicorn naturally overshadows the other watches that Sly is removing from his collection. Nevertheless, apart from the Grandmaster watch, there were some real gems on offer. In addition to numerous Panerai watches, which Stallone helped to make famous through his work as a brand ambassador, a Rolex, an Audemars Piguet and a sumptuous Cartier also went under the hammer.
