After moving from Germany to Hollywood, Tokio Hotel guitarist Tom Kaulitz became a fan of the German national team. He is expecting great things for the European Championships.
Tokio Hotel guitarist Tom Kaulitz is hoping for a victory for Germany at the upcoming European Championships. “I believe that if we develop such euphoria in the team, in the country, with everyone together, we can go very, very far – especially because it is the home European Championship,” said the musician, who grew up in Magdeburg, in an interview with the German Press Agency.
The national team has “very good chances” because of its “great” coach and “very good” squad, said Kaulitz, who is married to model Heidi Klum and has now lived in Hollywood for several years. “The first games will be incredibly important, so we need to perform well there.” Like many others, he has the feeling “that something is happening.”
Kaulitz also has a concrete tip for the tournament, which runs from June 14 to July 14: “I would say at least the semi-finals, if not the final. And then everything is open. I’m not committing myself to that. If it’s the final, then anything is possible,” said the 34-year-old and laughed.
Bayern fan Kaulitz
Tom and his twin brother Bill Kaulitz say they can’t really remember the last major football event involving men’s teams in Germany, the 2006 World Cup. “We weren’t socialized or grew up with football because football was never a big topic in our family,” said Tom Kaulitz. They were also touring a lot with their band at the time and rehearsing a lot. “That means the fairy tale passed us by a bit.”
He only became a football fan when the brothers went to the USA in 2010, said Kaulitz. As a fan of the national team, he then also became a fan of FC Bayern Munich. “Because we still had the most players back then,” explained the musician. During the European Championship, Netflix is releasing a series about the Kaulitz brothers. In it, the brothers are also accompanied on a visit to the Allianz Arena.
Next Friday, June 14, national coach Julian Nagelsmann’s team will face Scotland. The host’s other preliminary round opponents in Group A are Hungary on June 19 in Stuttgart and Switzerland on June 23 in Frankfurt.
