Paul Giamatti joins the universe of Star Trek in Paramount+. The Oscar-nominated star of The Holdovers will have an important role in the series Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.

The actor will have a recurring guest star role as the season’s central villain, described as a man with a sinister past and a connection to one of the show’s cadets.

What Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will be about
Starfleet Academy, which was ordered to series in March 2023, revolves around a group of young cadets who come together to pursue a dream of hope and optimism. Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers while navigating blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves, and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.
Giamatti becomes the second actor in the Starfleet Academy cast, joining Holly Hunterwho plays the captain and chancellor of Starfleet Academy.
The series comes from CBS Studios, which oversees the Star Trek universe for Paramount+. Kurtzman, who captains the Star Trek TV franchise for the streaming platform, is an executive producer through his Secret Hideout banner, based at CBS Studios, along with Rod Roddenberry of Roddenberry Entertainment. Gaia Violo, Aaron Baiers, Olatunde Osunsanmi, Jenny Lumet, Trevor Roth, Frank Siracusa and John Weber also executive produce, and Violo wrote the pilot.
