Françoise Hardy is dead. The French singer died at the age of 80, as her son Thomas Dutronc (50) announced. “Mama is gone…”, which shows him as a toddler with his mother.

Françoise Hardy was born in Paris in 1944. She began her music career in the early 1960s. She became famous in 1962 with her song “Tous les garçons et les filles”. She wrote the song herself at the age of just 18. A year later, she took part in the Grand Prix Eurovision de la Chanson and came fifth. The US magazine chose Hardy as the only representative of France in its list of the 200 greatest singers in 2023, placing her at number 162.

Years of fighting cancer

The singer has been battling cancer since 2004. In 2023, she said she was not afraid of dying, but she was “very, very afraid of suffering.” She also spoke of the fear of having to say goodbye to her son. In recent years, Hardy has campaigned for the right to euthanasia.

In 1981, Hardy married singer and actor Jacques Dutronc (81), with whom she had been in a relationship since 1967. Their son Thomas was born in 1974. Hardy and Dutronc have been living separately since the 1990s.
