Oprah Winfrey (70) was absent from the US show “CBS Mornings” on Tuesday morning (June 11). The US talk show host was supposed to present her latest book club selection there. But the TV icon has apparently caught a bad gastrointestinal infection and even has to recover from it in hospital.
Gastrointestinal infection and dehydration
Presenter Gayle King (69) explained to the audience on the show: “She has something wrong with her stomach – a stomach flu – it was coming out of both ends.” The TV icon is in hospital and has been given an infusion because of dehydration, King revealed.
It is a very serious matter, she added. Winfrey needs to recover. “I hope she is not angry with me for telling me this.” The two TV stars have been friends for many years. The presentation of the book “Familiaris” had to take place on the show without Winfrey. Beforehand, however, she had shared her thoughts on the work by David Wroblewski (65).
A spokesman for the presenter later confirmed King’s statements. He also gave a brief health update: Winfrey is on the mend. The 70-year-old is recovering from the gastrointestinal infection and has received an infusion on the advice of her doctor. “She is resting and is feeling better every day,” the spokesman added.
