Game of Thrones spin-off: George RR Martin revealed that he is working again on “10,000 Ships”

The prequel series had previously been scrapped by HBO, but is now being revived with a new writer.

The creator of game of Thrones, George R.R. Martinhas revealed that the spin-off Ten Thousand Shipspreviously scrapped, is being revived and the writer and actress Eboni Booth is on board for the pilot.

The author shared a post on his blog to congratulate Booth on winning a Pulitzer Prize for his work Primary Truth and broke the news that he was working on the prequel series.

“She is an incredibly talented young playwright and a pleasure to work with; When she wasn’t writing and producing her award-winning plays on and off Broadway, HBO and I kept her busy working on a new pilot for Ten Thousand Ships, a Game of Thrones spin-off about Nymeria and the Rhoynar,” Martin wrote. “We’re all really excited about this one…although we’re still trying to figure out how we’re going to pay for ten thousand ships, three hundred dragons, and those giant turtles.”

What is known about the new Game of Thrones spin-off

Ten Thousand Ships was one of the possible spin-offs that HBO was developing to follow game of Thrones. Earlier this year, the writer Brian Helgeland revealed that he had been working on a script that “turned out great.”

“It was like Ray Harryhausen’s Sinbad movies mixed with The Odyssey. In a way, Nymeria is Odysseus, but instead of a crew of 12, she is responsible for all the citizens of this floating city-state,” he said in an interview with Inverse.

Helgeland said the spin-off “was based on Queen Nymeria and this little blurb about her that was in an encyclopedia in Westeros. Essentially, it was the story of Moses, but changing it to Nymeria. His country is ruined and its people are forced to live on the water, which is why the program was called Ten Thousand Ships.”

“They end up having to leave and find a new home, like the Israelites who left Egypt,” he continued. “She’s leading all these people, trying to keep them all together, but things are always in danger of falling apart as they travel through a fictional version of the Mediterranean, looking for a new home to settle down in.”
