The former professional boxer thought long and hard before agreeing to fight the entertainer and “really thought about it a lot”. Even now, she is still troubled by one question in particular.
Former professional boxer Regina Halmich hesitated for much longer than previously known before agreeing to fight entertainer Stefan Raab. “The truth is: It took about three weeks,” said the 47-year-old at the Screenforce Day Festival TV conference in Düsseldorf about the match. The exhibition fight is scheduled to take place on September 14 in Düsseldorf. RTL will broadcast it. “I really thought about it a lot. I also asked myself: What motivates him to do this? We all ask ourselves that.”
Halmich continued: “But then I thought to myself: OK, it can work. And if he’s crazy enough to step into the ring against me for the third time – then I’ll do it.” And when advance sales finally started, 15,000 tickers were sold within a few minutes. “This is crazy, it’s going to be big. Stefan is well over 30 kilos heavier than me. The match is going to be tough. It’s going to be great.” She hasn’t boxed for 17 years, said Halmich. “I’m back with my old trainer now. I wouldn’t do it if I didn’t believe in myself. And I have to rock the thing.”
Raab withdrew from public life in 2015
With the fight, Raab returns to television after a long absence from the screen. In 2015, he largely withdrew from the public eye. Since then, he has worked behind the scenes. In 2018, he appeared in a stage show in Cologne, but it was not broadcast on television.
The former TV presenter (57, “TV total”) has already boxed against Halmich twice – in 2001 and 2007. In both fights the Cologne native lost, once breaking his nose. The first two encounters were broadcast by ProSieben. According to RTL, the latest exhibition fight is called “The Clark Final Fight”.
