David Beckham has denied reunion rumors about the Spice Girls and revealed why his wife Victoria will not return to the band.
David Beckham (49) has dashed any hope of a Spice Girls reunion. In a new interview, the former football star denied rumors that the girl group, which also includes his wife Victoria Beckham (50), wants to go on tour together again. “Unfortunately, that’s not going to happen,”
David Beckham went on to explain that the Spice Girls are all too busy to tour at the moment. The five musicians last came together for Victoria Beckham’s 50th birthday in April. “Victoria was so happy to see the girls,” said her husband. The group had been “a big part of her life,” but now everyone has their own things to do, he explained, but also added: “They will do certain things together at certain times.” However, his wife’s schedule, who started out as a fashion designer after her career as a singer, is packed. “If anyone has more to do than me, it’s her.”
Reunion for the 50th birthday
For her 50th birthday, Victoria Beckham and her colleagues showed off their entertainer qualities once again; the Spice Girls performed their hit “Stop”. David Beckham recorded the moment. The clip shows Victoria, Melanie “Mel C” Chisholm (50), Emma Bunton (48), Geri Halliwell (51) and Melanie “Mel B” Brown (49) standing on a podium and performing the dance steps from the music video for the song. “I know that’s what people want, but honestly, I think I was the most excited of all,” the ex-footballer told “Variety” about the performance. He was overwhelmed to see “all the girls in one room again” – let alone on stage.
The Spice Girls “haven’t been on stage together for over 15 years. To have them all there, to have them all on stage and to have our youngest son as a guitarist…” he enthused. “It was an incredible moment,” said the 49-year-old. But one shouldn’t expect to see the five women in an arena again: “Unfortunately, that’s not going to happen.”
The Spice Girls remain one of the most successful girl groups of all time. In the 1990s they stormed the charts with hits like “Wannabe”. In 2000 they took a break, but returned in 2007 for a successful world tour. In 2012 they made a special appearance at the London Olympics with a medley of “Wannabe” and “Spice Up Your Life”. In 2019 there was a second reunion tour of Great Britain and Ireland, but Victoria Beckham did not take part.
