A law enforcement official told the Associated Press that Timberlake was due to appear in court on Tuesday in Sag Harbor, on the eastern end of Long Island. He has since been released, the news agency DPA reported. The official could not publicly discuss details of the ongoing investigation and spoke to AP on condition of anonymity.
Representatives for Timberlake did not immediately respond to AP’s requests for comment.
The singer, who is married to actress Jessica Biel and has two children, rose to fame with the boy band *NSYNC and is now also successful as a solo artist. He is currently on tour with a new album and is scheduled to perform in Chicago and New York in the coming days.
