“Gladiator II”: Ridley Scott’s film changed its release date

The new film stars Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal and a great cast.

Gladiator II of Ridley Scott It advanced its release date from November 22 to November 15 (in Argentina it will probably be the 14th). The film brings Paul Mescal as the new protagonist, playing the adult version of Lucius. Commodus’ young nephew (played by Joaquin Phoenix in the original film).

Mescal, who rose to fame after his role in Normal People, has acknowledged that taking on the role and assuming the legacy of Gladiator is a daunting challenge. “I’m very excited, but it’s hard to step away from the legacy of the movie a little bit,” Mescal told Esquire. “I think it’s very well written and pays homage to the first one, but it’s something I think I can comfortably come into and make my own.”

Outside of Mescal, the Gladiator 2 cast also includes Denzel Washingtonwho joined the cast as a former slave, since turned into a wealthy merchant. Connie Nielsen and Derek Jacobi They reprise their roles as Lucilla and Senator Gracchus, respectively. Besides, Joseph Quinn will play Emperor Caracalla, and Peter Pascal will play a former military commander who, after an incident in which he disobeys direct orders, is forced to fight as a gladiator, alongside May Calamawy by Moon Knight, who has also signed.

Gladiator success

Gladiator was released in 2000 and soon became a critical and commercial success. The film earned significant box office revenue, grossing over $460 million worldwide, and was also highly acclaimed on the awards circuit, winning five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Russell Crowe, out of a total of twelve nominations. The sequel has been eagerly awaited, with Scott and his new cast working hard since last year to bring the film to life. Crowe, for his part, is not too enthusiastic about making the film, as he said last week.

“I feel a little uncomfortable with the fact that they’re making another one, because, of course, I am dead and I have no say in what is done.“Crowe admitted. “A couple of things I’ve heard are like, ‘No, no, no, that’s not in that particular character’s moral journey.’ But I can’t say anything, it’s not my place, I’m six feet under. So we’ll see what that’s like.”
