“It’s a difficult time” for Remy Ma: Rapper’s son allegedly shot man

New York rapper Remy Ma is afraid for her son, who has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

In 2007, the American rapper was arrested for attempted murder after a woman was shot in New York. Now the son of Remy Ma (44) has been handcuffed. Jayson Scott (23) is in custody on suspicion of murder.

The accusation: On June 7, 2021, a man was shot at the intersection of 148th Street and Rockaway Boulevard in Queens, New York. When police arrived, they found Darius Guillebeaux, a suspected drug lord, with multiple gunshot wounds to the head and chest. Guillebeaux was pronounced dead at the hospital. According to law enforcement, Remy’s son and another perpetrator are now accused of murder. Other charges, such as illegal possession of weapons, have also been brought against the 23-year-old.

“We stand by Jayson”

The musician reacts to her son’s arrest: “We stand with Jayson, believe in his innocence and pray that the NYPD conducts a full and thorough investigation to uncover the truth,” she urges, continuing: “This is undoubtedly a difficult time for my family and I. While we sincerely appreciate the love and support we have received from all of you, we ask for privacy while our legal team works to prove Jayson’s innocence.”

The singer, whose real name is Reminisce Smith, emphasizes: “As his mother, I would like to address this situation personally. However, I have been strongly advised by his legal counsel not to say anything.”

She herself was in prison for attempted murder

Remy Ma’s debut album “There’s Something About Remy: Based on a True Story” was released in 2006 and landed at number 33 on the Billboard 200 album charts. Then the scandal: in 2007, she was arrested after her friend Makeda Barnes-Joseph was shot. Remy Ma turned herself in and said that the shot had gone off accidentally. A court found her guilty in 2008 and sentenced the New York native to eight years in prison. After six years, the then 34-year-old was released on August 1, 2014.
