Royal Ascot: The royals celebrate at the horse race

Every year in June, the British royals have to show stamina when it comes to celebrating. Last weekend, Prince William, King Charles and Co. celebrated the King’s birthday parade, “Trooping the Colour”, in the heart of London. On Monday, they dressed up in medieval costumes and celebrated the Order of the Garter, and immediately afterwards, the royal family can be seen at the famous “Royal Ascot” horse race.

“Royal Ascot” is a traditional horse racing event that takes place every year in June in Ascot, near Windsor Castle. The event was founded in 1711 by Queen Anne, and over time it has developed into a central event in British horse racing and is closely linked to the British royal family.

Attending Royal Ascot is a tradition in the royal family

The late Queen Elizabeth II was a regular attendee of the races since her accession to the throne in 1952, often opening the event in a carriage during the Royal Procession. A passionate horse lover and breeder, she owned racehorses that regularly competed at Ascot, some of which went on to win, such as her horse Estimate in the 2013 Gold Cup. Her presence emphasised the importance of tradition and etiquette at Royal Ascot and made the event a preeminent social event, attracting celebrities, royalty and international guests.

Their descendants King Charles, Princess Anne, Prince William and many more continue this tradition. The five-day event at Ascot Racecourse brings together the best horses, jockeys and trainers from all over the world. The royals cheer from the stands, the field and during the parade. This year, it was clear that the members of the royal family were having a lot of fun and did not shy away from the odd glass of alcohol.
