The United Kingdom is a land of great architectural pieces, including castles and mansions, which denote the style of past lives. And they not only function as tourist attractions but are also often chosen for filming and recording of series and movies.

Although there are many, Wilton House stands out both for its design and for being one of the favorites for audiovisual productions, such as series “The Crown” and “The Bridgertons”.

What is Wilton House like, the most famous mansion

This property, which is in the name of the Earls of Pembroke, is in Salisbury, a city two hours from London and was the home of many politicians and artists. The manor, which was granted by Henry VIII to Sir William Herbert, was rebuilt in 1647 by Inigo Jones and John Webband later modified by James Wyatt in 1801.

Wilton House has a collection of ancient statueswithin which is included the Mazarin Collection of Parispurchased in the 1720s. It also has cloisters and state apartments, which have furniture by the famous architect William Kent and a large number of portraits of Van Dyck and paintings by artists such as Lely, Rembrandt and Gerrit van Honhorstamong others.

Since 1983, both inside and outside the property were carried out restoration tasks, which involved taking care of the house as well as the large gardens that surround it. The last changes were in 2010, when the cloisters and the Wyatt dining room were inaugurated. From 1951 to the present, Wilton House is open to the public and has different activities and exhibitions.

Wilton House: all the movies and series that were filmed there

Due to its beautiful interior design and beautiful views of the garden and parks, Wilton House was one of the preferred locations for productions. The first movie to be filmed in this mansion was “The Music Lovers”, a 1971 feature film which tells the story of the famous Russian composer Peter Tchaikowsky.

However, Wilton House gained its fame by being chosen by Stanley Kubrick to record “Barry Lyndon” in 1975. Later, it was the place for many recordings in which they stood out “Emma”a 2019 film and “Tomb Raider” of 2017.

But without a doubt, the best-known productions today are “The Crown”, which tells the history of the British crown and use this place to recreate the interiors of Buckingham Palace and “The Bridgertons”, which tells the experiences of a powerful family, as well as its dynamics and conflicts.
