In Hollywood, she is best known as the woman with the most Oscar nominations. Meryl Streep has been nominated for the Golden Boy an incredible 21 times – and she has won it three times. Her unique career began in the 1970s on Broadway in New York and quickly led her to the Hollywood film studios. Over the decades, she worked there with well-known colleagues and with cult directors such as Sydney Pollack and Steven Spielberg. Streep biographer Michael Schulman wrote in 2016: “No actress born before 1960 gets a role in Hollywood before it is turned down by Meryl.”
Everything seems to be going well in Meryl Streep’s life, not just professionally but also privately, even though she reveals very little about herself. In 1978 she married the sculptor Don Gummer, with whom she had four children. The two had a marriage that didn’t make the headlines – until last year. Then it was revealed that Streep and Gummer had been living apart for six years, but there was no talk of divorce.
The actress is now celebrating her 75th birthday. But she is clearly not thinking about retiring any time soon. A few months ago, Streep confirmed that she will also be appearing in the fourth season of the series “Only Murders in the Building.” The new episodes will start on August 27, 2024 on the US broadcaster Hulu.
