Justin Timberlake said he had had a “tough week” in Chicago, where he gave his first concert since his arrest.
Justin Timberlake (43) has continued his tour after his arrest in the Hamptons. On Friday evening (June 21) he was on stage in Chicago – and also addressed the incident. The singer was arrested by US police on Tuesday for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and endangering others.
Short speech at concert
“It’s been a rough week,” the singer told his fans. At his concert at the United Center, he also said in his short speech before the song “Selfish”: “I know it’s hard to love me sometimes, but you keep loving me and I love you back.”
According to a statement released by the Sag Harbor Police Department on Tuesday, June 18, Timberlake was “observed driving a 2025 BMW southbound on Madison Street, failing to stop at a properly posted stop sign and failing to maintain his lane.” After a traffic stop by an officer, the hitmaker was found to be “operating his vehicle while in an intoxicated state.” He was then “placed under arrest and held overnight for morning arraignment.”
Timberlake claims to have only drunk one martini
According to the arrest report, which was obtained by various US media outlets, Timberlake told authorities: “I had a martini and followed my friends home.” The following day, his lawyer Edward Burke Jr. released a statement saying he would “vigorously fight these allegations.”
The singer has been touring since April for his sixth studio album, “Everything I Thought It Was,” which he released on March 15. Before his arrest, the last stop was in Miami. After two nights in Chicago, his tour will next take him to Madison Square Garden in New York City. He has further performances in the US until July 9. The European tour is then scheduled to begin on July 26 in Krakow, Poland – the same day that a court date is scheduled. As “People” reported, the hearing will take place virtually so that Timberlake can attend his planned performances. His lawyer will represent him on site.
