He is more than just a Hollywood star who also celebrates himself as a rock star – Russell Crowe performs at the Glastonbury Festival.
On June 26, the traditional Glastonbury Festival (since 1970) will enter its next round. Alongside Coldplay and Dua Lipa (28), Russell Crowe (60) will also be on one of the stages in the small English town. The actor is once again on the road in his part-time job as a musician. The Oscar winner will be playing on the Acoustic Stage with his band Indoor Garden Party on Saturday (June 29).
Russell Crowe is not afraid of a mud fight after a rainy period in England, because the New Zealander and his band are actually holding an indoor party. They are performing under cover in a tent. “We’re going to blow the place up,” promises the part-time rock star.
“Forget the celebrity bullshit”
Another actor trying his hand at being a rock star – you might think. But Russell Crowe was already seriously into music before his film career. He toured clubs and pubs for years and recorded records. The idea that he would one day become a Hollywood star seemed “ridiculous” to him at the time.
For his Glastonbury gig, Russell Crowe wants the audience to forget about his “other job,” as he calls acting. They should forget the “celebrity bullshit” and expect a “serious band.” “It’s full of monster musicians who know what they’re doing.” Indoor Garden Party is a collective that includes musicians from Crowe’s previous bands Thirty Odd Foot Of Grunts and The Ordinary Fear Of God.
Music as a balance to the film
Russell Crowe values music as a “balance” to working on a film. For him, it has a “reset” aspect. The two artistic activities are very different for the “Gladiator” star. “Film sets are usually very controlled,” he told “Sky News”. “You have to respect the gods of film and be absolutely ready and have done your research,” explained the actor.
On stage, however, preparation is not important. Here, the only thing that counts is the audience’s reaction, which you as a musician have to adapt to. “It’s this kind of anarchy where you don’t know exactly what’s going to happen.” That makes the music “really attractive” for Russell Crowe.
