First came the millions, then true love – but now it’s all over. Lottery winner Kürsat “Chico” Yildirim and his partner Candice Newgas have separated. The 43-year-old explains why the relationship failed.
Lucky in gambling, unlucky in love: Kürsat Yildirim, better known as lottery millionaire Chico, and his girlfriend Candice Newgas are going their separate ways after about a year and a half of being together. Both confirmed this on their social media accounts. “Chico and I are separated. The reasons for this are varied and not relevant here,” wrote the 37-year-old in an Instagram story. Chico told the “Bild” newspaper: “It’s true, we have separated. It just didn’t work out between us, which is a shame. We had some great times together, I really wish her all the best in life.” Regarding the reasons for the end of their relationship, he said: “Maybe we are just too different. We have different hobbies, a different circle of friends and often different opinions.” Living together like this didn’t work out in the long run.
It all started so well. Chico and the policewoman met at a traffic check. She stopped him because he was driving way too fast in a 30 km/h zone. The man from Dortmund asked her out for a coffee date, but the policewoman initially declined. “Because he was so persistent, I gave in. According to the motto: ‘A coffee won’t kill you’. I thought it would be a quickie because I wasn’t really into him, the type of guy,” Newgas told broadcaster RTL last year.

But the two quickly became a couple, and most recently they were seen together in several TV shows, such as the Sat.1 documentary “Über Geld spricht man doch”. Chico and his partner revealed that they spend 1,500 euros a month on restaurant visits and 2,500 euros on lottery tickets, among other things. “I just can’t stop doing that because I’ve become a multimillionaire,” said the 43-year-old.
The former excavator driver hit the Eurojackpot in 2022 and won almost ten million euros. He invested the money mainly in apartments, luxury cars and expensive jewelry – valuables that he likes to brag about in public. Most recently, he bought his own penthouse on Dortmund’s Phönix Lake. Chico will now live there alone after separating from Candice. He told the “Bild” newspaper about a possible new partner: “I’m taking it easy for now. I have all the time in the world and I’ll just let myself be surprised. But of course, in the long term I want to have a partner by my side again. I want to become a father and have children.”
