Cultura Viva, located just one block from the Abasto shopping center (Anchorena 666), is a space that brings together different artistic expressions in an old 1,000-square-meter house, where period style is combined with completely renovated areas, in a minimalist style and stripped off.
Directed by Osvaldo Casin and with the artistic direction of Zulma Garcia CuervaThis centre operates as a non-profit association, dedicated to the development of culture in its most varied disciplines, understanding culture as those activities that society carries out on a daily basis, without limiting ourselves to pre-established concepts. This is where its name, “Living” Culture, comes from, since it mutates, grows, diversifies, and is a connecting thread between the present and the past.
Artistic disciplines
Each of the art exhibitions held at Cultura Viva are complemented, generally, by another artistic expression that accompanies from the background, enriching the audience’s experience when visiting them: live music, theater monologues, contemporary dance and any proposal that may arise within a framework of aesthetic excellence.
As an added value, meetings between the exhibiting artist and the public are also encouraged, or multidisciplinary meetings that amalgamate the artistic work with another discipline. In addition, courses are offered in theater, literature, dance, tango, plastic activities for all ages, public speaking, collage, stand up, etc.
Space
The magnificent building of the cultural center combines an art gallery, theater, and bar, while there are almost countless activities carried out there. It has seven plastic arts exhibition rooms, with lighting and distribution that contributes to the brilliance of the works exhibited there. The center is open to all styles of contemporary art. Its two glass-roofed patios give an exquisite setting to the sculptural displays.
Among its facilities, stands out a theater with capacity for 40 people that in its main room has a magnificent stage, The CV is a sound and lighting booth and often hosts orchestras, singers or dance couples. Jazz, folk music, tango and even Greek music shows have been held there. Finally, CV also has a cafeteria with space for about 100 people, ideal for meeting friends, meetings and private events.
