Pop Titan: Dieter Bohlen is not a fan of Ballermann

For Dieter Bohlen, Mallorca is unbeatable. But he says he has never been to Ballermann. The 70-year-old reveals his favorite spots on the Mediterranean island.

Dieter Bohlen loves Mallorca, but is not a fan of Ballermann. “Personally, I avoid Ballermann and have never been there. In any case, I find the party and nightlife in the east of the island much better,” said the musician, producer and “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” juror in an interview with “Mallorca Magazin”.

Bohlen can well understand the rapidly increasing frustration of the residents of the Spanish holiday island with mass tourism. “It is true that a lot of German booze tourists behave extremely badly.” He compared the housing shortage on Mallorca with the situation on Sylt, where people also “barely have the money to pay the rising rents.”

The island, which he first visited when he was 18, used to be “much more natural and unspoilt”. But the 70-year-old emphasises: “I’ve seen a lot of the world, recently I was in Crete, which is also great. But Mallorca is unbeatable for me.” His favourite spot is Valldemossa, but he finds it far too lonely to live there. “Now we have a 90-square-metre apartment in the south-west of the island.”

Bohlen reveals his secret of success

With his girlfriend Carina, whom he met 18 years ago in a nightclub in Cala Rajada in the north-east of the island, Bohlen goes out to sea in Mallorca “when the sun is shining and the wind is right (..)”. It is not a “mega yacht, but a small ten-metre boat, the ‘Braveheart'”. In general, he acts “completely normal” in Mallorca and does not “drive around in a Ferrari”.

Of course, Dieter Bohlen doesn’t neglect work in the summer: He has just “finished filming” a DSDS season, which will be broadcast in September and October. “The secret of my success is simple: being more hardworking than everyone else,” he told “Mallorca Magazin”. “I go the extra mile in my business, sometimes working on weekends. In the beginning, I sat in the studio with my keyboard player at Christmas, and neither of us even had presents for our loved ones.”
