Deichkind took on this role at the second venue. Before that, Roy Bianco & Die Abbrunzati Boys wanted to create a lively atmosphere. At a festival with the word Lido in its name, a little Italian feeling is a must. “That’s the only reason we were booked,” they laughed in an APA interview. “We promise that people at our concerts can leave their problems with their jackets at the cloakroom when it’s not as hot as it is today, of course, and surrender to the whirlwind of pop music in peace, joy and friendship,” said Die Abbruzanti Boys, who, contrary to his stage name, is only one person. Roy Bianco sees being called a joke band as a compliment: “Our music should also be great fun.” His singing colleague added: “Personally, the Germans’ seriousness really gets on my nerves. In Austria and Italy, more bizarre projects are valued more.”
Basically, they see themselves “in the tradition of good, old German-language pop music.” In this context, Roy Bianco mentioned Udo Jürgen and Vicky Leandros, who “packed a certain kind of dignity into their pop music, sometimes even a social critique – in contrast to the Mallorca sell-outs that we know from Ballermann. They stand for handmade music that also shows attitude. We also make music in this tradition.” Mr. Abbrunzati has also gained plenty of experience from pop music: “I was Roy Black’s bassist. I will never forget the performance with him at London’s Royal Albert Hall. I enjoyed it and learned a lot from him. There is a lot of Roy Black in Roy Bianco.”
