Bette Midler and Barbra Streisand for Joe Biden – Caitlyn Jenner and Roseanne Barr for Trump: This is how the stars reacted to the TV debate.
US President Joe Biden (81) and challenger Donald Trump (78) duelled for the first time in the US presidential election campaign on Thursday. Of course, many celebrities also followed the debate on CNN – and did not hold back on comments on social media.
Bette Midler against “Bastard” Trump
Bette Midler (78) was particularly active (and explicit). “All my friends are now taking their blood pressure medication and preparing for the debate. I wonder how many TV screens will break tonight?” wrote the entertainer on X.
The supporter of Joe Biden and the Democrats called Donald Trump, among other things, the “worst president in the history of the United States.” This was one of the most harmless descriptions for the Republican. Elsewhere she called him a “bastard” or
“Lies, lies and more lies,” the singer and actress commented, adding: “Every word out of his mouth is a lie.”
Stephen King and Barbra Streisand criticize media circus
Stephen King (76), also a prominent Trump critic, took a more objective approach to the situation. He criticized the media circus surrounding the debate. “Good God! The TV stations are packaging this as entertainment, like a boxing match, and selling democracy at all costs. It’s a disgrace,”
Barbra Streisand (82) took a similar approach. She pointed out that “debates are not governing.” “It’s about theatrics on television. Biden can govern very well. He is experienced and has achieved a lot,” she wrote. Joe Biden, weakened by a cold, was described by many observers as the loser of the debate.
Caitlyn Jenner fights for Trump – Roseanne Barr prays for America
Since American show business is traditionally liberal, only a few high-profile stars sided with Donald Trump. Former athlete and reality TV actress Caitlyn Jenner (74) took aim at Joe Biden, calling him a “total failure” who is “clearly in mental decline.”
Roseanne Barr (71) is also on Team Trump. But she is not happy about her candidate’s apparent victory in the duel. “Biden is clearly not there,” she continued: “That’s sad. Obama is sacrificing his friend to advance his radical policies, and I don’t want any of us to be cheering after this.”
Donald Trump thinks the comedian is the better choice – but after this debate she wants to “pray for our country”.
