Singer Jenni Rivera died in a plane crash in 2012. She has now posthumously received a star on the “Walk of Fame” in Hollywood.
Jenni Rivera (1969-2012) was posthumously honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday (June 27). Her five children – Jacqie, Johnny, Chiquis, Jenicka and Michael – honored her with speeches celebrating the life and legacy of the late musician. Singer Gloria Trevi (56), one of Rivera’s closest friends, was also present and spoke at the ceremony.
Trevi said, according to the report: “Today is a very special day. We honor and celebrate the life of an outstanding woman. Today love and talent conquer death. The daughter, the sister, the wife, the mother, the friend lives on through all of us who love and admire her.” She continued: “For me it is an honor to experience this recognition together with her family. She has made her mark in a genre dominated by men. Jenni is unforgettable and unrepeatable, this star symbolizes her light in our hearts. Today is a day to celebrate, to celebrate the life of Jenni Rivera. Thank you Jenni, we love you.”
Career began in the 1990s
Jenni Rivera was born to Mexican immigrants in California. She became known as “La Diva de la Banda” and enjoyed great success from the 1990s onwards before she died in 2012 at the age of 43. Even after her death, her music remained in demand. Billboard magazine named her “Best Latin Artist of 2013” and “Best-Selling Latin Artist of 2013”.
Rivera died in a plane crash on December 9, 2012, when the private plane she was traveling in with six other people crashed in Mexico. There were no survivors. An investigation by authorities was completed in December 2014 without determining the cause of the crash.
