From August 1stthe United States will implement new requirements for traveling with animals. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) issued an update to its regulations in this regard.


These new measures were implemented to control the entry of dogs from other countries and all dogs will be appeasedincluding puppies and service animals, those who left the United States and are returning. They also apply whether you are a US citizen, legal resident of the US, or a foreign national.

Requirements to enter pets into the US from August 1, 2024
The entity clarifies that “the updated regulation will help Keeping Americans and Their Pets Safe”. And specifies that in addition allows to control diseases like rabies, which is fatal in more than 99% of cases and is 100% preventable.
The new measures are:
- The animal must be at least 6 months old at the time of entry or return.
- Submit a receipt for the CDC Dog Importation Form, completed online, ideally 2-10 days before the dog or cat arrives. This form requires a clear photograph of the pet, showing face and body, as well as detailed information about its health and travel history.
- That they are seen healthy upon arrival, without contagious diseases to people.
- Have a microchip compatible with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), implanted before any rabies vaccination.
- Additional documentation will be required depending on the pet’s travel and vaccination history, including countries visited and rabies vaccination status.
