Amalia Lacroze was born on August 15, 1921 in Buenos Aires and in her youth she became a fashion icon. She was married twice, once to the lawyer Hernan de Lafuentewith whom he had a daughter, and another in 1955 when he married Alfredo Fortabat, founder of Loma Negra and other companies.
When her husband passed away in 1976, Amalita assumed the lead role in the family business. In this way, she became the most important businesswoman in Argentina, generating a fortune of around US$1.8 billion. Fortabat died on February 18, 2012.
