Not only does she play Steffi Graf in the new film romance “Perfect Match – The Steffi & Andre Story”, she also values her as a role model: Actress Lena Klenke (“Fack ju Göhte”, “How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast)”) is impressed by the former tennis legend. “I admired her deep inner calm, nothing could throw her off track,” said the 28-year-old in an interview with dpa. “Some people could learn a thing or two from that.”
The film (now available on the streaming service Amazon Prime Video) tells the love story of Steffi Graf and tennis star Andre Agassi – in a fictionalized way. Little is known about this story. For almost 25 years now, the couple has kept their private life almost completely out of the public eye, unlike many of their other prominent colleagues.
For Klenke, who is also not a talker about private matters, it is quite sympathetic: “How it really was for the two of them is something only they know. But somehow it is also nice that the real story of how they met and fell in love will stay with them forever.”
“And then I built my own Steffi”
And admiration obliges: Klenke prepared meticulously for her role – not only does she look very similar to Graf in the film, she also gestures and speaks like him. “I simply absorbed everything I could find out about her,” explained Klenke. “And then I built my own Steffi, with the help of my tennis coach and a language coach.”
