After Lena Meyer-Landrut’s short-term cancellation of two concerts, fans reacted with concern but also anger.
After the Tollwood Festival in Munich on Saturday, Lena Meyer-Landrut (33) also canceled her appearance at the State Garden Show in Wangen im Allgäu on Sunday evening at short notice. As her team announced, she had to be taken to a clinic again with pain. On social networks, many fans expressed their understanding and concern for the singer’s health. But anger and disappointment were also mixed in with the comments.
“Condition worsened again during the afternoon”
At around 6 p.m., the organizer announced the cancellation of the concert, which was supposed to start two hours later. An hour later, an explanation was given: “Unfortunately, Lena’s condition worsened again during the afternoon and she had to go to the hospital again with severe pain.” The singer was quoted as saying: “I wish I didn’t have to write this to you now, but I can’t change it: I won’t be able to play the concert in Wangen today.”
After the incident on Saturday, she had still been confident that she would be able to perform in Wangen. “Unfortunately, I had to cancel my concert in Munich yesterday at short notice,” she wrote in an Instagram story on Sunday afternoon. “I wasn’t feeling well during the day and then in the evening I got cramp-like stomach and kidney pains, had to throw up shortly before the show started and was then taken to a hospital,” explained the former ESC winner. “Thanks to the paramedics and doctors who helped me so quickly.”
She said she was “incredibly sorry” that her fans had waited so long and had to leave disappointed. “My conscience is bothering me, but my body said no,” said the singer. She is “resting now and doing everything I can to be able to play the show for you tonight.” She is also said to have driven to Wangen im Allgäu on Sunday night and checked into a hotel.
“Bottomless disappointment”
Many fans are now worried and hope that Meyer-Landrut is not seriously ill. On her Instagram page there are numerous wishes for her recovery, such as: “Get well soon, dear Lena. Of course that’s a shame, but health comes first.” But there is also criticism of the handling. After the cancellation in Munich, many visitors who wanted to see Meyer-Landrut in Wangen asked themselves whether it was even worth traveling. After her statement on Sunday afternoon, however, many dared to make the trip. “Extremely annoying! We had a two-hour journey and checked everything before we left. There was no cancellation. It wasn’t until 7:15 p.m., when we were standing at the entrance to the garden show…” reads one comment on Meyer-Landrut’s Instagram account. “What a bottomless disappointment! The communication was completely amateurish.” Some visitors wished for an earlier decision. “They could have canceled it last night and then a lot of people wouldn’t have come.”
Next appearance on July 19
It is not the first time that the singer has had to cancel concerts for health reasons. In August 2023, she was unable to perform after a riding accident and a double cruciate ligament rupture. But now she has a bit of time to recover. Her next performance is not scheduled to take place until July 19 in Plauen. The gig planned for July 1 at the festival week in Hadamar, Hesse, had already been canceled by the organizer on June 24 “for production reasons”.
