Maria Rosaria Omaggio’s most famous role was that of star journalist Oriana Fallaci in a film about Lech Walesa. Now the Italian actress has died.
The Italian actress Maria Rosaria Omaggio has died. The Neapolitan-born actress died on Monday in her home town of Rome after a long illness at the age of 67, her family announced. Omaggio appeared in more than 40 film and television productions, including the Rome film “To Rome With Love” by US director Woody Allen. She was also one of the well-known theater actresses in her home country.
Her best-known international film is “Walesa. The Man of Hope” by Andrzej Wajda about the Polish trade union leader Lech Walesa from 2013. In it, Omaggio played the Italian star journalist Oriana Fallaci (1929-2006). In the film, she also used a tape recorder that Fallaci often had with her during her interviews. She won a prize at the Venice Film Festival.
Omaggio was also an ambassador for the UN Children’s Fund Unicef. She herself had no children.
