Pearl Jam, Kim Petras, Neil Young – and now Sofi Tukker: The cancellations of concerts continue.
In the live finale of “Germany’s Next Top Model” on June 13, the US dance-pop duo Sofi Tukker presented their new song “Spiral”, in whose music video Heidi Klum (51) participates. Almost three weeks later, bad news for all fans: Sophie Hawley-Weld (32) and Tucker Halpern (34) are canceling their European festival and concert series in July.
Tucker Halpern has contracted a strophic infection
Tucker Halpern wrote on Instagram that he was “really disappointed” about this. “I’ve been looking forward to this all year and I’m sorry to all the people who made plans to see us and to the event organizers and festivals we’ve made commitments to.” However, he has been battling a strep infection for more than a month. “I’ve taken antibiotics several times, but the disease returns after each treatment. We believe this is due to my autoimmune issues (which ended my college basketball career) as my body is unable to completely clear the infection.”
He is also suffering from “extreme exhaustion, probably because my body has been trying to fight the strep throat for over a month while I was on tour.” Halpern continued: “In order to get healthy, I have to take some time off from touring.” A decision that is not easy for the musician: “If you know me, you know that this is the hardest thing. We are all confident that I can put all this behind me in 3-4 weeks and we can be back on stage.” He ended his long statement with the words: “Europe, we will be back soon.”
They met at university
The duo met at Brown University in Providence. Hawley-Weld, who was born in Frankfurt am Main, actually wanted to become a dance teacher. In 2014, she joined forces with Halpern to form Sofi Tukker. Two years later, their first EP, “Soft Animals,” was released. The song “Drinkee” became an international hit on streaming platforms, made it into the charts in Australia and Italy, and was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Dance Recording category.
