“The Sandman”: Netflix’s second season confirms new cast members

The series, based on Neil Gaiman’s graphic novel of the same name, will adapt the plots of “Season of Mists” and “Brief Lives.”

The Sandmanthe series of Netflixis adding new cast members to its already growing lineup for Season 2, and these actors will play characters featured in fan-favorite stories from the graphic novel series. Neil Gaimanincluding Ruairi O’Connorwho has been cast as Dream’s son Tom Sturridge.

Netflix The Tudum website announced Tuesday that O’Connor will play Orpheus: “The poet, musician and oracle, he is the only son of Dream and the muse, Calliope (last seen in The Sandman, episode 111). Orpheus is an idealistic and romantic young man, and very much his father’s son, until tragedy strikes and reveals to him the true nature of love.”

Also joining the cast of The Sandman for season 2, according to Tudum, Freddie Fox like Loki, Clive Russell like Odin, Laurence O’Fuarain like Thor, Ann Skelly like Nuala, Douglas Booth such as Cluracan and Jack Gleeson like Puck, all characters that appear in the “Season of Mists” arc of “The Sandman” graphic novels.

Besides, Indya Moore will play Wanda and Steve Coogan will join as the voice of Barnabas the dog, two roles introduced in the comics’ “Brief Lives” storyline.

What is The Sandman season 1 about?

According to the series’ Season 1 description, “When Sandman, aka Dream (Tom Sturridge), the powerful cosmic being that controls all our dreams, is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for over a century, he must travel through different worlds and timelines to fix the chaos his absence has caused.”

In May, Netflix revealed the first new cast members for the second season of The Sandman: Esmé Creed-Miles like Delirium, Adrian Lester like Destiny and Barry Sloane as “The Prodigal.” That trio of characters (who also play major roles in the “Season of Mists” and “Brief Lives” stories) are the remaining members of “The Endless” family that Dream is a part of, and will join returning Season 1 siblings Death (Kirby), Desire (Mason Alexander Park), Despair (Donna Preston) and Dream, The Sandman himself.

“The Sandman” is developed by Gaiman, showrunner Allan Heinberg and David S. Goyer, and the DC comic series of the same name is helmed by Gaiman, Sam Keith and Mike Dringenberg. All episodes of the second season will be directed by Jamie Childs.

The series is produced by DC rights owner Warner Bros. Television.
