On Instagram, actor Dean McDermott is celebrating a milestone in his sobriety. He has been living without alcohol and drugs for a year.
Actor Dean McDermott (57) celebrates a milestone on the road to abstinence with his approximately 140,000 followers.
“Last week was an incredible week of love, hugs and recovery. Thank you to my sponsor, my sponsee brothers and everyone in the community who celebrated my one year birthday,” the Canadian native wrote alongside a photo showing a countdown board of sorts. It shows a card that reads: “You are literally the most incredible person.”
“A beautiful life awaits you”
It was only in March of this year that McDermott announced in a video that he had overcome his alcohol and drug problems. “I’m clean and sober,” said the actor, who suffered from his addiction for years. The 57-year-old sought professional help and visited a rehabilitation facility in California. He attended four therapy sessions a day, six days a week.
Today he himself works in addiction support: “I work with alcoholics and addicts and help them to find the path that I have found and that I am on now,” says the actor.
Meanwhile, on Instagram, McDermott appeals to other sufferers: “If you are struggling with addiction, ask for help. We are here waiting for you, to love you until you love yourself. A beautiful life awaits you. Just reach out to us.”
Addiction led to divorce
The actor’s alcohol and drug problems are said to have been one of the reasons for his divorce from Tori Spelling (51). After 18 years of marriage, the former “Beverly Hills, 90210” star and McDermott announced their separation in June 2023.
McDermott had “every night, seven days a week, a bottle of tequila and a handful of narcotics [verschreibungspflichtige Medikamente]” as he explained in November 2023.
