In a new post on X on Tuesday, McKellen thanked his fans for their well wishes over the past few weeks and noted that his doctors are still confident he will make a “full” recovery. The actor then encouraged fans to keep watching the touring show, touting the performance of his understudy, who took on the role “with style.”


“Any actor will say that missing a performance is embarrassing, even when it’s not their fault. None of us want to disappoint our audiences. But Robert Icke’s masterful production remains intact,” McKellen wrote. “His staging is compelling from start to finish and his actors, led by Toheeb Jimho and Richard Coyle as Prince Hal and his father, remain in top form. Go see for yourself!”

McKellen officially announced he would be leaving the tour on Monday, following the advice of medical professionals.
The 85-year-old actor suffered his first injuries in mid-June, when he lost his balance and fell off the stage during a production of “Player Kings”The fall was so severe that McKellen had to call for help, prompting the lights in the room to come on and two medics from the audience to rush to his aid.
But she has since remained positive, with the production company’s initial statement assuring fans that McKellen was “in good spirits.”
