After two seasons, Amazon Prime Video canceled “Outer Range,” a series starring Josh Brolin

The news comes nearly two months after the seven-episode second season premiered.

Amazon Prime Video decided not to renew the sci-fi/neo-western drama Outer Rangemade by Josh Brolinfor a third season. The news comes nearly two months after the seven-episode second season of the showrunner’s series premiered Charles Murray May 16th.

This follows strong early viewership data in the U.S., with the new season launch propelling Outer Range to No. 3 on the Nielsen Streaming Originals chart for the week of May 20 with 476 million hours viewed and No. 8 for the week of May 27 with 314 million.

What Outer Range is about

Outer Range follows rancher Royal Abbott (Brolin), who fights for his land and family after discovering an unfathomable phenomenon on the edge of the Wyoming wilderness: a dark void. The mystery surrounding the void in the ranch’s western range deepens in Season 2, when Royal and his wife Cecelia (Lili Taylor) struggle to keep their family together after their granddaughter disappears.

In addition to Brolin and Taylor, other cast members included Imogen Poots, Tamara Podemski, Lewis Pullman, Tom Pelphrey, Noah Reid, Shaun Sipos, Isabel Arraiza, Olive Abercrombie and Will PattonChristian James, Megan West, Daniel Abeles, Kimberly Guerrero and Monette Moio appeared in the second season.

Brolin made his directorial debut in the penultimate episode of the second season.
