“That’s a white woman!”: Criticism of new wax figure of Beyoncé

The replica of singer Beyoncé in the wax museum of the Grévin Museum in Paris has been criticized because of the color used.

The famous wax museum in the Grévin Museum in Paris has unveiled a new celebrity: Beyoncé Knowles-Carter (42). But the reactions of fans are divided: Many are angry because the skin color of the “Texas Hold ‘Em” chart-topper is said to not correspond to reality.

The criticisms are piling up under the one from the French museum: “Has the person who did this ever seen a photo of Beyoncé?” the community quips. “We respect your work and the idea, but this is not our queen, please correct it,” demands another. The next one sums up: “Is this a prank?”

Not only the French are angry

“I don’t know who that is or is supposed to be. But it’s not my queen! That’s a white woman!”, rage users around the world. “If Beyoncé sees this, then…”, is horrified by an English-speaking follower.

It wasn’t the first time that the wax cast of the singer was panned. In 2017, a Beyoncé sculpture with a supposedly lightened skin tone not only sparked a storm of indignation, but also the Instagram hashtag #TussaudsSoWhite.

Madame Tussauds in New York, where the statue was exhibited in 2017, told the outlet at the time: “At Madame Tussauds, our talented team of sculptors make every effort to ensure that we accurately match each of our wax figures to the celebrity depicted.” However, the lighting in the exhibition spaces combined with flash photography can distort and misrepresent the color of the wax figures.
