After more than 40 years, Peter Schilling’s unofficial football anthem “Major Tom (Völlig losgelöst)” is back in the top ten of the German charts. No other song has achieved this up to now.
Musician Peter Schilling continues his surprise success with the unofficial football anthem “Major Tom (Völlig losgelöst)” – and sets a record. The song makes it back into the top 10 for the first time in over 40 years, where it was last in April 1983, GfK Entertainment announced. “No other song has managed this after such a long time,” it said.
The German Football Association (DFB) has named the 68-year-old’s 80s hit the goal anthem. The song was released in 1982.
However, in the European Championship stadium, a different song is played after the German national team scores a goal. It is “Fire” by Meduza, OneRepublic & Leony, the official song of the European Championship.
More football fever in the charts
Germany’s quarter-final match against Spain is scheduled for Friday evening at the European Football Championship. And the charts are still in football fever. “Zeit, dass sich was dreht” by $OHO BANI, Herbert Grönemeyer & Ericson is still number one in the singles charts. In fourth place, as in the previous week, is “Junge Baller” by 6PM Records, Ski Aggu, Haaland936 & SIRA. There is little movement in the rest of the top 5 either: in second and third place, as in the previous week, are “Wunder” by Ayliva & Apache 207 and “I Like The Way You Kiss Me” by Artemas. The only new entry is number five: “Panama”, a love song by the German rapper GReeeN.
Four newcomers made it into the album charts this week. The rappers Dardan & Azet entered the charts at number one with “Eurosport”. The band Imagine Dragons secured second place with “Loom”, and third place went to the Berlin band Beatsteaks for “Please”. The posthumously released album “Songwriter” by country legend Johnny Cash entered the charts at number four. Only Billie Eilish remained at number five with “Hit Me Hard And Soft”, as in the previous week.
