Blur drummer Dave Rowntree has missed out on a seat in the British House of Commons. The musician stood for the opposition Labour Party in the parliamentary election, which won a landslide victory. However, the 60-year-old did not benefit from this: Alison Bennett of the Liberal Democrats won in the south-east English constituency of Mid Sussex.
Rowntree came third. He announced his candidacy in March. The constituency was previously held by the Conservative Party, which formed the government with Rishi Sunak. However, the Tories suffered a bitter defeat in the election. The new Prime Minister is Labour leader Keir Starmer.

Last year, Britpop band Blur released new music for the first time in a long time. The album “The Ballad Of Darren” was released in the summer. Rowntree also released a solo album called “Radio Songs” last year.
Rowntree had previously run for political office. In recent weeks, he has repeatedly campaigned for a change of government on Instagram and, among other things, called for the most beautiful pothole to be chosen. The poor condition of some roads is a recurring topic in Great Britain.
