This is a document promoted by the European Council that allows access to employment within the continent. It grants entry and residence to highly qualified workers from anywhere in the world. The ultimate goal of this card is for the best talents in the world to gather in Europe.
What are the benefits of obtaining the Blue Card?
Benefits for highly skilled workers include:
- Right to work and live in the European Union (EU): Cardholders can settle and seek employment in a State that is a member of the EU.
- Long-term residence in the EU: These documents are valid for up to 24 months for the stay on the continent. An additional 3 months may be added after the end of the contracts.
- Mobility in the EUThe card allows mobility within the continent, authorising its holders to seek employment in other EU countries after 12 months.
- Equal working conditions: Holders are guaranteed the same working conditions, educational opportunities and social security rights as nationals of the country in which they reside.
- Recognition of professional qualifications: facilitates the recognition of qualifications throughout the EU, facilitating the process of working in regulated professions.
- Possibility of entering with family companions.

This documentation is delivered only to highly skilled workersThe European Union classifies in this class all those who had a educational training of at least 3 years for their work. In addition, it is indicated that they are awarded for professions that require a high level of training or for those who enter an advanced research program.
The European bodies also indicated a series of requirements:
- Have a valid contract or a firm offer of employment for a minimum of 6 months. The job must offer a minimum salary of at least 1.65 times the average gross salary of the country in which you wish to work.
- Certificates proving that you have the necessary qualifications described above.
- A travel document valid and, if necessary, a visa.
- Proof that you have a health insurance.
