Désirée Nosbusch: That’s why she doesn’t mourn her Bond Girl role

Désirée Nosbusch once wanted to be a Bond girl, but didn’t get the role. Looking back, she doesn’t think that’s a bad thing.

Désirée Nosbusch (59) has just presented her first feature film, “Poison – A Love Story”, which she directed, at the Munich Film Festival. The drama with Tim Roth (63) will be released in cinemas on January 30, 2025. In an interview, the Luxembourg actress and presenter looked back on her long career in the spotlight and talked about how she almost became a Bond girl.

Is Désirée Nosbusch an ex-Bond girl?

She narrowly missed out on the world-famous role alongside the then 007 actor Pierce Brosnan (71). But for Nosbusch, this was apparently no longer a problem, as she explained: “If I had really played the role of Bond Girl back then, what would I be today? An ex-Bond Girl? Would that have helped me on my business card?” Another missed opportunity to work as a VJ for MTV does not bother her either. She would certainly have “experienced a really cool phase and probably married a rock star and would be living in Nashville. But then what?”

Instead, Nosbusch was able to fulfil a dream as a director: “The decades in front of the camera were a time of gathering and learning for me. Now I have finally dared to realise my own vision of a subject as a director.” She was already working for the radio at the age of twelve. She presented and made films and series. But she was not always happy with her career. “Between my mid-30s and almost 50, I tried to be something I wasn’t,” she said in the interview. Back then, she didn’t get the roles she wanted, struggled with herself and felt constant restlessness and dissatisfaction. It took her too long to accept herself and today she has achieved everything she wanted.

“My heart bleeds every day when I don’t see my children”

Her film “Poison – A Love Story” deals with the subject of death and the question of how parents can deal with the loss of their child. “For as long as I can remember, the subjects of loss and death have always interested me, fascinated me – and also always frightened me,” says Nosbusch. And as a mother, she feels completely differently: “If I had known how afraid you are for your children, I would probably never have dared to become a mother. Nevertheless, I have to let them go again and again. But my heart bleeds every day when I don’t see my children.”

Désirée Nosbusch has been married to cameraman Tom Bierbaumer (55) since 2018. Her daughter Luka (26) and her son Noah-Lennon (29) come from a previous marriage to the Austrian film composer Harald Kloser (67).
