Villa Sanagasta is a picturesque summer village 30 km from the city of La Rioja, on the banks of the Huaco Riverwith vineyards and artisanal wineries. It is, without a doubt, one of the most popular spots, especially in summer.
It has only 2,275 inhabitants and is built very close to the Huaco River Valley, a situation that has been particularly used to generate an oasis with numerous farms specialized in the cultivation of fruit trees such as walnut trees, peach trees, fig trees and vines.

Dinosaur Park
The Sanagasta geological park offers the possibility of measuring past times, as it contains fossils of dinosaur nests and plants, cwith an age of 65 to 95 million yearsThese incredible findings were made by CRILAR (Regional Scientific Research Centre) and revive the interest in the evolution, composition and behaviour of these large saurians.
It offers two possibilities:
- The Red Valleywhich includes a 2km walk where you can see life-size dinosaur replicas. The guide explains the paleontology and geology of the place surrounded by a stunning landscape.
- The Nest of Liberty It is also a 3km walk in which scientific explanations of the place are provided. At the end of the circuit you can see an original nest of dinosaurs and the excavations of the fossils.
The House of Culture
It is an old establishment located in the city centre, donated by an important local family. The Museum of Craftsmen operates there, where works by local and regional artisans are exhibited. In its parks there are elements of ploughs, sulkies and sugar mills.
Diaguitas Recreational Park
Located on Route No. 75. It is the ideal option for those lovers of adventure and outdoor activities such as trekking, rappelling, ziplining and climbing. The park also features a display of regional products and pottery.
You can also do sport fishing and water sports at the Los Sauces Dam, go on boat rides, trekking, hike to the Via Crucis and Cuesta del Mirador viewpoints, visit the Chapel of the Indian Virgin, and even taste delicious wines with a delicious meal in wineries surrounded by the best vineyards in the province.
How to get to Sanagasta, La Rioja

-From the city of La Rioja:
30 kilometers to the northwest along National Route No. 75, crossing a tunnel dug into the mountains.
-From Chilecito:
The distance is 218 kilometers, and you can choose between two circuits:
One of them consists of heading south on National Route No. 74, reaching the town of Patquia and turning north there on National Route No. 38 to reach, after 72 kilometers, La Rioja Capital, and arriving at Sanagasta on National Route No. 75.
The other is from Chilecito to the north, along the mythical National Route No. 40, thus arriving at the town of San Blas where you will take National Route No. 60 and then continue the journey south along National Route No. 75 and, after crossing Aimogasta, Aminga, the Cuesta de Huaco, finally reaching Villa Sanagasta.
