Until 2006, Carol Bongiovi headed the Bon Jovi fan club she founded. Now the mother of singer Jon Bon Jovi has died.
Musician Jon Bon Jovi (62) has suffered a personal loss: his mother Carol Bongiovi is dead. According to US media reports, the founder of his band Bon Jovi’s fan club died on July 9 at the Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey, at the age of 83 – three days before her 84th birthday. No information on the cause of death was given.
Singer released a statement on behalf of the family
“Our mother was a force to be reckoned with. Her spirit and attitude shaped this family. We will miss her very much,” the singer stressed in a statement on behalf of the family, which was quoted among others. The funeral service will take place in a private setting.
Carol Bongiovi was not only the founder of the fan club of her son’s band of the same name, but also an entrepreneur and ran several businesses. At a young age, she posed for “Playboy”. In 1959, she joined the US Marine Corps, where she met her husband John Bongiovi Sr. In a conversation with “The Big Issue” in November 2020, Bon Jovi thanked his parents for giving him “the ability to make the dream a reality”. “Even if you really weren’t good at your craft, you could work at it if you believed you could,” he said. They always made him believe that he could do anything. “As I got older, I realized that my parents had given me a great gift. They really believed in John F. Kennedy’s mantra of going to the moon.”
She supported her eldest son so much
They also had a significant influence on his music career: they gave him his first guitar for Christmas when he was seven years old. Ten years later they allowed him to perform for the first time. “They always supported me, which was incredible in retrospect. Because I could come home at one or two in the morning and still have to be at school at eight. They just said: come to school on time, you know it’s your responsibility, but pursue your dream.”
Carol leaves behind her husband of 63 years, her three sons and eight grandchildren.
