Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci are in negotiations to return for the sequel.

A sequel to The Devil Wears Prada is officially in development. Disney is now working on a sequel to the 2006 classic, in which Anne Hathaway played an ambitious executive assistant to a deliciously evil fashion magazine editor, played to perfection by Meryl Streep in one of his most iconic roles. The announcement of the long-awaited sequel also comes with news that Aline Brosh McKenna (the writer behind the first film) is also in talks to write the sequel.

The four stars of the first film, Streep, Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucciare in negotiations to return for the next installment, according to Entertainment Weekly. The director of the original film, David Frankel, is also set to direct the sequel.

What will The Devil Wears Prada 2 be about?

Rumors of a second film featuring the original cast have been circulating for years, and now it looks like it’s finally coming to fruition. While the first film saw advertising executive Andrea (Hathaway) and top assistant Emily (Blunt) face off against Miranda Priestly (Streep), the ruthless and cunning editor-in-chief of fashion magazine Runway, there are hints that the sequel will go in a slightly different direction. The Devil Wears Prada 2 will reportedly focus on Priestly as she tries to salvage her career amid a declining print magazine business, while also taking on Emily, who’s now a high-ranking executive at an advertising group.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 will be based on a script by Brosh McKenna. The production company is also expected to return Wendy FinermanThe original script was adapted from the 2003 novel of the same name by Lauren Weisbergerthough it’s unclear whether he’ll be involved in the sequel. Disney, which now owns the original film’s distributor, 20th Century, hasn’t revealed most of the details, as expected.
