Former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer sued for wrongful death

Josh Klinghofferguitarist who played with Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jane’s Addiction and currently with Pearl Jamis being sued by manslaughter for a fatal car accident involving a pedestrian.

A lawsuit filed today in Los Angeles Superior Court alleges that Klinghoffer was involved in a fatal vehicle and pedestrian accident in Alhambra, California, that resulted in the death of Israel Sanchez, 47 years old.

Klinghoffer is accused of being distracted by a cell phone while behind the wheel of a pickup truck. The musician is being sued for Ashley Sanchezthe only daughter of Israel Sanchez.

What the lawsuit against Josh Klinghoffer says

According to the lawsuit, Sanchez was allegedly headed to a grocery store on March 18. While walking through a crosswalk, the lawsuit says Klinghoffer struck him with her vehicle.

Sanchez was walking within a marked crosswalk and halfway across the road when Klinghoffer, driving a 2022 GMC Yukon, turned left and struck Sanchez in the back, according to the lawsuit.

Klinghoffer’s attorney, Andrew Brettler, said in a statement to NBC News on Wednesday that His client was involved in a “tragic accident”.

“After the car struck the pedestrian, Josh immediately stopped, pulled over, called 911 and waited until the police and ambulance arrived. He is fully cooperating with the traffic investigation,” Brettler said.

Sanchez family attorney Nick Rowley said in a statement that Klinghoffer “He should be arrested and prosecuted for murder”.

Sanchez was pronounced dead at a hospital about two and a half hours after the collision, according to the lawsuit. His daughter is seeking a jury trial and damages.
