Production on Season 3 of the series will begin almost exactly three years after the premiere of Season 2.
Season 3 of Euphoria is officially set to begin production. The long-delayed third season of the HBO series HBO The Emmy-winning series is set to begin filming in January 2025 and all of the main cast members will return, according to HBO.
“I’m thrilled that we’re set to begin production on ‘Euphoria’ in January. We couldn’t be happier with our creative partnership with Sam and this incredible cast. This means that production on Season 3 will begin almost exactly three years after the premiere of Season 2. HBO originally announced that production on the new season had been delayed to March 2024.
Why did it take so long for the third season of Euphoria to arrive?
The delay can be attributed to multiple factors, including: the writers’ and actors’ strike in 2023; the massive rise in popularity of the series’ cast, who have therefore been forced to participate in several more projects; and the creator’s desire Sam Levinson to write the entire series himself.
Levinson had approached HBO in late 2023 and early 2024 with his ideas for the third season that included a five-year time jump, as well as potential story arcs for Rue, such as her work as a private investigator or as a surrogate mother. HBO ultimately decided to put the series on pause until it could creatively align with the previous two seasons.
The main cast of Euphoria includes Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Hunter Schafer, Storm Reid, Alexa Demie and Eric Dane. Angus Cloudwho excelled in his role as Fezco, died at age 25 in July 2023. Meanwhile, some cast members have already indicated that they would not return to the show for another season, such as Barbie Ferreira .
Zendaya also serves as an executive producer on “Euphoria,” while Levinson also serves as executive producer and director.
