Alec Baldwin remains a free man. The court stopped his criminal trial after the “Rust” accident. This is how his daughter Ireland reacted.
US actor Alec Baldwin (66) no longer has to fear any criminal consequences due to the spectacular turn of events in his trial following the fatal accident on the “Rust” set. on the termination of the trial in Santa Fe. She posted a sweet father-daughter photo from days gone by, showing her as a small child happily on her father’s lap. She let the photo speak for itself and only posted a black heart in the comments section.
A few hours earlier, a judge had ruled that the prosecution had intentionally and knowingly withheld evidence from Baldwin’s defense. This fact allowed the court only one reaction: the immediate and irrevocable discontinuance of the proceedings. This means that Alec Baldwin cannot be held responsible for the fatal shot in any new criminal proceedings. He faces up to 18 months in prison. Possible civil lawsuits are, however, exempt from this.
Weapon master from the “Rust” set had to go to prison
The authorities had withheld a set of live ammunition from Baldwin’s lawyers, which may have been the source of the fatal bullet. Withholding this evidence had caused great harm to the defendant, which is why the prosecution was highly culpable, the judge said in her argument.
In October 2021, 42-year-old Ukrainian camerawoman Halyna Hutchins (1979-2021) was fatally injured on the set of the film “Rust” by a bullet from a gun held by Baldwin. The gunsmith responsible on set, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed (27), was sentenced to 18 months in prison for negligent homicide in April. Why the gun was loaded with live ammunition remains unclear to this day.
