Isabel Gose and Lukas Märtens will not travel to Paris as a couple: the two swimming stars have ended their relationship.
It’s over: The two German swimming stars Lukas Märtens (22) and Isabel Gose (22) have separated shortly before the Summer Olympics in Paris. “Yes, unfortunately that is in the past, we have separated.” The two had been in a relationship for around four years and also trained together at the federal swimming center in the state capital of Saxony-Anhalt, Magdeburg.
The “difficult decision” was made together, Gose continued: “We still get on well. It was a shock for our families, of course. They would have liked to see us together again.” The swimmer said the reason for the split was that it just didn’t work out anymore. But they still see each other every day and still train in the same group in Magdeburg.
Lukas Märtens and Isabel Gose are among the favorites in Paris
Experts believe that both swimmers have a good chance of winning a medal in Paris. Both have already won European championships in their favorite discipline, the 400-meter freestyle. Gose, who was born in Berlin, also won one silver and two bronze medals at the World Championships in Doha this year.
Märtens from Magdeburg won bronze at the World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan last year. Both have already taken part as a couple in the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021 (postponed from 2020 due to the corona pandemic).
