The film world is mourning the loss of James Sikking. The actor has died at the age of 90 after a long career.
James Sikking (1934-2024) has died at the age of 90. As the magazine explains, citing the actor’s press secretary, Cynthia Synder, the “Hill Street Police Department” actor died “peacefully in his home in Los Angeles, surrounded by his family.” The 90-year-old is said to have suffered from dementia.
James Sikking’s career spanned over 60 years
James Sikking’s career spanned six decades. He is known for his role as Lt. Howard Hunter in the series “Hill Street Police Department,” which ran for seven seasons from 1981 to 1987. The Emmy-nominated actor also had a leading role as Dr. David Howser, father of the brilliant Doogie (played by Neil Patrick Harris, 51) in the series “Doogie Howser, MD,” which ran from 1989 to 1993.
Although he is best known for his TV roles, James Sikking has also had numerous appearances on the stage and on the big screen, such as as a contract killer in John Boorman’s (91) film “Point Blank” (1967), as Federation Captain Styles in “Star Trek III: The Search for Spock” (1984) directed by Leonard Nimoy (1931-2015) or as the director of the FBI in Alan J. Pakula’s (1928-1998) “The Files” (1993). He has also appeared in the films “The Magnificent Seven” (1972), “A Man for a Season” (2005) and “Beloved” (2008).
James Sikking was married twice
The actor, who was born in Los Angeles in 1934, was married for the second time to Florine Sikking, an author whom he met at university and married in September 1962. According to US media reports, his survivors also include his children Emily and Andrew and several grandchildren.
