The Eras Tour: Taylor Swift in larger than life

The Eras Tour: Taylor Swift in larger than life

In a few days, Taylor Swift will be playing the German concerts of her “Eras Tour” – kicking off in Gelsenkirchen. The Ruhr region city will welcome her with a work of art.

Taylor Swift on 90 square meters: A huge acrylic painting is being created in Gelsenkirchen before the pop singer’s first concert in Germany as part of her “Eras Tour”. The work of art is three-dimensional – depending on the perspective, it looks as if Swift is jumping out of the ground towards the viewer.

The artists Vanessa and Lydia Hitzfeld needed four days to paint the picture in Gelsenkirchen city center. Vanessa Hitzfeld specializes in 3D street art, and for several years she has been painting projects together with her mother Lydia.

“I find it particularly appealing that you can use it later. It’s not hanging in some gallery or in someone’s home, but is in public,” says Vanessa Hitzfeld. “And people have fun with it.”

Many allusions to Swift’s work

Entering the painting is expressly encouraged. Fans can stand on the painting at various points and take photos with Swift’s image.

In addition to the musician’s face, the three-dimensional image will also show many details that are associated with her and her music: such as butterflies that symbolize her debut album “Taylor Swift”, Swift’s lucky number 13 and a snake that represents her sixth studio album “Reputation”.

The picture is due to be finished by Tuesday evening, just in time for the first concert. The US singer will play three shows in the Ruhr area city (17, 18 and 19 July). Gelsenkirchen is expecting around 200,000 fans, said city spokesman Markus Schwardtmann. Further German shows will then take place in Hamburg and Munich.
